About Pronto
Authentic Italian. Unadorned and straight forward. Welcoming and neighbourhood-friendly. Old world yet modern.
Those are all phrases that describe Pronto, a restaurant in Vancouver’s Cambie Village. Pronto features porchetta, beautifully prepared Italian roast pork, served with fresh and seasonal sides. We also offer a range of other traditional dishes on the menu, including vegetarian options, and a small but feisty wine and beer list.
Angela Maida was inspired to open Pronto after having just one sandwich from Sara Jenkins’ extraordinary Porchetta in New York’s East Village. Angela, a first generation Italian Canadian from Winnipeg via Montreal, was immediately captivated by the simple pleasures of porchetta. What followed were two years of culinary experimentation in her kitchen to find the right combination of seasoning and slow roasting technique to create the sublime and aromatic porchetta served up at Pronto. In a review of Pronto, Westender food critic Andrew Morrison wrote that our porchetta sandwich is a “particularly superb one, and there are one or two others I’ve had elsewhere. Pronto’s is right up there in terms of taste and because porchetta doesn’t grow on trees (it’s definitely a labour of love getting it right) the $8 dent in your wallet is a bargain.”
In the perfect location in the heart of vibrant Cambie Village, architect Scott Cohen and Stephan Gagnon (the designer/builder team responsible for the look of restaurants such as Les Faux Bourgeois and Nuba), came up with Pronto’s striking design. The Westender had this to say about the design: “Aesthetically, there just isn’t any other place like it in Vancouver.”
The atmosphere at Pronto, which offers free Wi-Fi, is casual and friendly. It’s an ideal neighbourhood destination for lunch or dinner, and well worth journeying across town for. Located across the street from the Park Theatre, Pronto is the go-to place for a satiating meal before or after a movie. And music is always playing from Angela’s diverse collection.
Catering is available from Pronto, and the restaurant can be booked for private functions. For info, see Catering & Private Functions.
So that’s Pronto: porchetta and more in a comfortable and subtly stylish setting. Come visit us – Pronto!
